Frustration Season

a poem

A colonial style window reflects vines and plant growth on its surface. The background/what is seen through the window is murky and blurred.

in the mirror

finished putting my tresses in a topknot

i spy rogue strands

it’s frustration season

then like a light switch

a new perspective glows

showing me how perfectionism

is still playing me as pawn

in the game of getting in my own way

recovering i throw a bandeau over my hair

and reconcile that this imperfect ‘do is good enough

realizing in past perfectionism almanacs

it was predicted

that i would go through repeated frustration seasons

bearing a fruit of overthunk anxious insecurities

i shift now to a new track

in mind,

in growth,

in perspective: planting seeds of i am good enough now

while backing me up by patting the fertile soil of forgiveness,

watering with a cleansing shower of moving on, and making space

for sunshine rays of vitamin D acceptance.

future me

will have space to expand their authenticity.
