In My Husband’s Kitchen

a prose poem about belonging and kitchen magic

In my husband’s kitchen,

culinary magic occurs.

The beauty, the sparkle

are there whether you

sous or nah.

Tunage — the tunes

(music) thrumming, bumping,

beating, vibrating, shimmying,

through the speakers — the subwoofer

(and it does more than woof)

are a prerequisite

to make

thee magic.

Ratatouille

fireworks, sparks, scintillates

colors; is pretty.

However,

in my husband’s kitchen

anyone and everyone

feels like they belong.
