He took care of my feet.

Broke the overgrown metatarsals,

shaved them down,

molded them into tools

that could support me

on the remainder of my journey.

Today,

I learned of his passing.

I look to my feet and remember.

He was kind, funny, considerate,

and full of information.

I did not know his body struggle

until I read his obituary.

Yet, he knew my body struggle

and eased my burdens.

Rest in peace and power,

sweet podiatrist. I hope you

knew of the positive impacts

you left in the world. May each step

and metatarsal imprint remind us.

Common — Get It Right ft. Raphael Saadiq (Official Audio)

I embed a Common video here in tribute to my podiatrist who left this world. When I was in recovery after one of my bunionectomies and coming to I asked my doctor: Are you Common?

His reply: No. (While grinning and doing his best to stifle laughter.)

I was coming out of some pretty sweet sedation dreams that involved Common, the Rapper. A song from the real Common to send him on his way to the next life. 💙
