Thyroid’s Rampage

a prose poem

Voided.

Emptied.

A hollow feeling

encased in gooey guts.

The depths

eroded

and spilling

into the toilet.

A twenty one paperclip

essence entombed

in a vacuous void

receding vaporous

thyroid hormone.

An endocrine organ

that “can’t get right”

and rebukes

medicine’s control and

less than charming

advances to rein

it in.

It chomped on the bit

so many times

it broke

me.
