Used Up, Worn Out, Made Done and Without

a prose poem

What if the best one can hope for

is akin to being a busted, plastic

reusable shopping bag

full of plastic, reusable shopping bags

in various stages of wear and tear?

Essentially, this is a grotesque

art installation

representing life.

One’s storage of these bags

piling up in stages of aging

and of usage

to be recycled, reused,

or discarded.

Appearing in

upcycled wares

like that person

who has

“still got it.”

And maybe all we ever had

was our ability

to use up and to stockpile

all we will lose.
